A LUT (Look-Up Table) remaps color and tone from your source clip to a target look. Think of it as a smart, repeatable color recipe: you can emulate film stocks, match camera color science, or apply stylized looks (teal-and-orange, vintage fade, monochrome drama) without rebuilding complex grades from scratch.
Add Custom LUTs
DaVinci Resolve includes built-in LUTs for a variety of camera profiles and film-style looks, making it easy to both correct and stylize footage quickly. It also supports importing custom LUTs, and lets you save full grading setups as reusable presets (PowerGrades), creating a streamlined, consistent color workflow.
In order to add custom LUTs to DaVinci Resolve please refer to this article here.
Apply LUTs To Footage
Step 1 β Locate the Color Page
Navigate to the Resolve Page Bar and click on the Color page icon.
Step 2 β Access the LUTs Tab
In the upper-left corner of the screen below the menu bar, you'll see an icon labeled LUTs. If it is greyed-out, click the icon to open the LUTs tab.
Clicking the LUTs icon will reveal a list and thumbnail view of your available LUTs.
Step 3 β Applying LUTs to footage
Applying LUTs in DaVinci Resolve is easy. Simply right-click on the node you would like to add a LUT to and hover your mouse over LUT in the drop-down menu. A list of all available LUTs will appear and you can choose which one you'd like to apply.
Alternatively, you can also run your mouse left and right across the thumbnail of any LUT available in the LUT Panel to preview its look on your footage. Once you've made a selection, simply double-click the LUT Thumbnail and it will be applied to the node you have selected in the node graph. Alternatively, you can also click and drag the thumbnail to the node as well.
The node icon will change, adding a grid icon and displaying the applied LUT when you hover your mouse over it.
You can repeat this process as you explore and dial in your look as you work in DaVinci Resolve.
Step 4 β Save Your Own Custom LUT
After you've dialed in a look, you may want to export these settings into its own custom LUT. To do this, simply hover your mouse over the affected clip on the timeline and right-click on it. In the expanded menu, choose Generate LUT.
2. Choose from the options of 17, 33, or 65 Point Cube / Panasonic VLUT. File Explorer will then open in the LUT Directory and allow you to name the new LUT you are creating. Click Save.
3. After saving, navigate to the LUTs Panel and right-click on the LUTs folder. Click Refresh. Your custom LUT will appear in the list and is now available for use.
