Monitor & Keyboard Setup Guide for PCoIP (CREE8 Latest Release 4.6.0)

Following the CREE8 4.6.0 update, you may need to adjust a few settings on your Mac to ensure your keyboard and monitors work correctly with PCoIP. This guide walks through the most common configuration steps.

Written by Michael Taylor

1. Grant Accessibility permissions (fixes keyboard issues)

After updating to CREE8 4.6.0, both the CREE8 app and PCoIPClient need to be granted Accessibility access on your Mac.

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility

  2. Check that both CREE8 and PCoIPClient are listed

  3. Toggle each one off, then back on to ensure they're active

If the apps aren't listed:

Click the + button at the bottom of the Accessibility list to add them manually.

  • CREE8 can be found in your Applications folder

  • PCoIPClient should also be in Applications. If it's not installed, download it from the Workstations page in your CREE8 dashboard — select the Software Client matching your operating system

If you can't locate PCoIPClient using the standard file browser, click + in Accessibility, press Command + Shift + G, then navigate to: /Applications/CREE8.app/Contents/Resources/pcoip_osx/ Select PCoIPClient from that folder.

2. Switching between your local Mac and your cloud workstation (multi-monitor)

With PCoIP in fullscreen across all monitors, Mac shortcuts like Cmd + Tab won't switch you to local apps. Instead, use Mission Control:

  1. Enter fullscreen across all monitors via PCoIP menu bar > View > Fullscreen All Monitors

  2. Press F3 to open Mission Control — this appears across the top of all your screens

  3. Hover over a screen and click Desktop to switch that monitor back to your local Mac

  4. When ready to return to your CREE8 session, press F3 again and select PCoIPClient

This is especially useful on a 3-monitor setup — you can keep working in your virtual workstation on two screens while using your local Mac on the third.

3. F3 key not responding?

Some external Mac keyboards reassign the F3 key by default. To fix this:

Option A: Hold fn and press F3 simultaneously

Option B: Change the keyboard behaviour permanently:

  1. Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts

  2. Locate the Mission Control shortcut and ensure the fn modifier toggle is disabled

4. Mac CMD key not working as expected

First, confirm that PCoIPClient is enabled in Accessibility (see Step 1 above).

Then, make sure Enable Cmd Key is selected in your CREE8 dashboard — this ensures the keyboard behaves like a standard Mac keyboard within your session.

5. Restore Mac keyboard shortcuts within your session (Advanced)

By default, PCoIP captures all keyboard input, which prevents Mac shortcuts (like Cmd + Shift + 4 for screenshots or Cmd + Tab for app switching) from working on your local machine while in a session.

You can optionally disable this behaviour:

⚠️ This is an advanced configuration change. It has not been fully tested in all environments. It only affects your local user account and is fully reversible.

  1. Quit PCoIPClient

  2. Open Terminal and run:

defaults write "com.teradici.Teradici PCoIP Client" mac_capture_all_keys -bool false
  1. Reconnect to your workstation and test with Cmd + Tab or Cmd + Shift + 4

To revert:

defaults write "com.teradici.Teradici PCoIP Client" mac_capture_all_keys -bool true

Note: When this setting is active, the Enable Cmd Key option in the dashboard is no longer needed — Mac shortcuts pass through automatically.
