Function keys (F1–F12) can help streamline your workflow by offering quick access to system commands or app-specific features. On a Mac, these keys are often tied to default functions like adjusting brightness or volume, but you can easily enable them as standard function keys when working in a CREE8 workstation.

To access this feature follow these steps:

  1. Open Your Local Mac System Settings

    • Click the Apple menu  in the top-left corner of your screen.

    • Select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).

  2. Search for "Function"

    • Look for the option labeled Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys (this might appear under Modifier Keys in some macOS versions).

  3. Toggle on Use F1, F2, etc. as standard function keys.

    • When this option is enabled, you’ll need to hold the Fn key (or Globe key on some keyboards) to use the default system functions like volume or brightness.

    • For example: Pressing F1 will now perform the app’s assigned function, while holding Fn + F1 will reduce your screen brightness.
